Fiber Optic Transceivers Have A Different Understanding

Aifon Technology Co.,Ltd | Updated: May 10, 2017

Optical fiber transceiver, also known as photoelectric converter, is a short distance twisted pair electrical signals and long distance optical signal interchangeable Ethernet transmission media conversion unit. The difference in viewing angle gives a different understanding of fiber optic transceivers,  Fiber Optic Transceivers such as 10M, 100M fiber optic transceivers, 10 / 100M adaptive fiber optic transceivers and 1000M fiber optic transceivers at transmission rates; Fiber optic transceivers operating in the physical layer and fiber optic transceivers operating at the data link layer; if the desktop (stand-alone) fiber optic transceivers and rack-mounted fiber optic transceivers are viewed from a structural point of view; There are multi-mode fiber optic transceivers and single-mode fiber optic transceivers called two. There are also single-fiber fiber transceivers and dual-fiber fiber transceivers, built-in power supply fiber optic transceivers and external power fiber transceivers and managed fiber optic transceivers and off-managed fiber optic transceivers. The fiber-optic transceivers break the 100-meter limit on Ethernet cabling, rely on high-performance switching chips and high-capacity caches, while providing true non-blocking transport switching performance while providing balanced traffic, isolation conflicts, and Detection error and other functions to ensure that the data transmission of high security and stability. Essentially the fiber optic transceivers only complete data conversion between different media, can achieve 0--100Km two switches or computer connections between, Fiber Optic Transceivers but the practical application has more expansion.
1, to achieve the interconnection between switches.
2, to achieve the exchange between the switch and the computer.
3, to achieve the interconnection between computers.
4, transmission relay: When the actual transmission distance exceeds the nominal transmission distance of the transceiver, especially when the actual transmission distance of more than 100Km, Fiber Optic Transceivers in the case of field conditions permit, the use of two transceivers back to back relay, is a Very cost-effective solution.
5, single multi-mode conversion: When the network needs to be a single multi-mode fiber connection, you can use a multi-mode transceiver and a single-mode transceiver back-to-back connection to solve the single multi-mode fiber conversion problem.
6, wavelength division multiplexing transmission: When the long-distance cable resources, in order to improve the utilization of cable, reduce the cost, the transceiver and WDM can be used in conjunction with the two information on the same fiber transmission.
Precautions for use of fiber optic transceivers
From the introductory introduction, we know that fiber optic transceivers have many different categories, and most of the actual use of attention is different according to the different types of fiber optic connectors: SC connector fiber optic transceivers and ST connector fiber optic transceivers.
When using fiber optic transceivers to connect different devices, you must pay attention to the use of different ports.
1, fiber optic transceivers to 100BASE-TX devices (switches, hubs) connection:
Confirm that the length of the twisted pair is not more than 100 meters long;
Connect one end of the twisted pair to the RJ-45 port (Uplink) of the fiber transceiver and the RJ-45 port (common port) to the 100BASE-TX (switch, hub).
2, fiber optic transceivers to 100BASE-TX equipment (network card) connection:
Confirm that the length of the twisted pair is not more than 100 meters long;
Connect one end of the twisted pair to the RJ-45 port (100BASE-TX port) of the fiber optic transceiver and the other end to the RJ-45 port of the network card.
3, fiber optic transceivers to 100BASE-FX connection:
Make sure that the fiber length does not exceed the range of distance the device can provide;
One end of the fiber is connected to the SC / ST connector of the fiber optic transceiver and the other end is connected to the SC / ST connector of the 100BASE-FX device.
Also need to add is that many users in the use of fiber optic transceivers that: as long as the length of fiber in single-mode fiber or multi-mode fiber can support the maximum distance can be used normally. In fact, this is a wrong understanding, this understanding only in the connected devices are full-duplex equipment is correct, when there are half-duplex equipment, the optical fiber transmission distance there is a certain limit.
